On January 22, the BOE & BAL Student Forum was successfully held in HG03 from 16:00 to 18:00. This annual event provides an open platform for students and faculty to exchange ideas, aiming to enhance the learning experience and improve teaching quality. All faculty members who have taught the courses in these two programs are invited, with students from various grades actively participating. The forum demonstrated the faculty's commitment to both students' learning experiences and academic outcomes, as well as their dedication to continuously improving teaching quality.
The event was designed to foster communication and collaboration between students and teachers, to create a more effective and engaging learning environment. The forum was divided into two parts:
- Student Feedback and Suggestions: Students were encouraged to share their thoughts on teaching practices, course design, and areas for improvement.
- Chit-Chat Session: Students and teachers engaged in informal conversations over tea and snacks, encouraging a relaxed and friendly atmosphere for further discussion.
Key Topics Shared by Students:
During the forum, students provided thoughtful insights and suggestions to enhance their learning experience. They expressed interest in having more flexibility in forming groups for projects and suggested balancing the time allocated for class presentations to fit the course schedule more effectively. Many students highlighted the importance of focusing on the quality of final essays rather than word count and recommended receiving feedback at the end of the semester, similar to how teaching evaluations are conducted. To improve preparation, they proposed uploading teaching materials earlier on the Tronclass platform and expanding library resources with more academic journals and references. Additionally, students shared ideas such as incorporating more public lectures, balancing reading materials with IELTS content, and exploring creative and engaging teaching methods. They also emphasized the value of quicker feedback on assignments and suggested streamlining electronic materials while providing more reference resources. These constructive ideas reflect the students’ commitment to improving their learning environment and outcomes.
Faculty Reflections and Comments:
The faculty expressed their gratitude for the students' thoughtful and constructive feedback, reaffirming their commitment to continuously improving both the learning experience and academic outcomes for all students. The faculty emphasized that they are always attentive to teaching quality and are dedicated to refining their teaching methods to better support students' needs. Several faculty members addressed specific suggestions, such as uploading teaching materials earlier and providing quicker feedback, noting that efforts are already underway to address these points. They also explained the rationale behind certain practices, such as group project assignments and the use of electronic materials, while assuring students that their concerns would be considered in future planning.
The faculty emphasized that the forum is not only a way to address immediate concerns but also a valuable opportunity to strengthen the connection between teachers and students. They encouraged students to continue voicing their opinions and contributing to the improvement of the courses.
Looking Ahead:
The Student Forum highlighted the shared commitment of faculty and students to fostering a supportive and effective learning environment. The faculty expressed their best wishes to all undergraduate students, encouraging them to stay motivated and thrive on their academic journey. By working together, both students and teachers are building a foundation for continuous improvement, ensuring that future cohorts benefit from an even stronger educational experience. The faculty looks forward to seeing students grow, succeed, and make the most of their time in the BOE and BAL courses.
