On April 16, the Day of the Portuguese Language was celebrated at CityU. Following the opening remarks by Dean Jin, a 1.5-hour showcase of music, dance, and song by students in the Portuguese degree program filled the Cultural Center.
Songs were performed in both Portuguese and Patuá, featuring instruments like the erhu and saxophone, creating a vibrant celebration of cultures. Songs by GNR, Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes, Doce, and others added to the festive atmosphere.
The audience also enjoyed several videos created by the students, inspired by Portuguese poetry, along with an entertaining series documenting a “Peddy Paper” event in Taipa, contested by students from all four years of the program.
This was followed by various activities, including traditional games, quizzes about notable figures from the Lusophone world and China, foosball challenges, penalty shootouts, a blind tasting involving custard tarts, and many more engaging experiences that involved students, faculty from FHSS, and visitors.
Congratulations to the students and teachers of BOP!
