“Language as a Bridge, Connecting the World” Lecture: Expanding Global Horizons in Scholarship

In celebration of the 44th anniversary of the founding of the City University of Macau, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences invited Professor Ping Wu from Beijing Language and Culture University to deliver a lecture titled “Language as a Bridge, Connecting the World” on April 8. The lecture focused on the development and innovative practices in applied linguistics, while also incorporating insights into the policies of the China Scholarship Council (CSC), as well as recent trends in talent cultivation across Mainland China and Macau. The lecture offered undergraduate and postgraduate students of applied linguistics, as well as young faculty members, a fresh international perspective on further education and academic development.

In line with its educational philosophy of integrating international learning, experiential learning, cross-cultural learning, peer learning, and value-added learning, City University of Macau is committed to providing students with diverse academic platforms and international exchange opportunities. This lecture not only broadened students’ understanding of cutting-edge topics in applied linguistics but also inspired in-depth reflection on their future academic and professional paths. The university encourages students to actively participate in national and regional exchange programs, strengthening their language proficiency and intercultural communication skills, and laying a solid foundation for global engagement.

The successful hosting of this event once again demonstrated the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences’ strong commitment to academic internationalization and talent development. Upholding the university’s guiding philosophy of “Macau Characteristics, China’s Soul, and Global Vision,” CityU Macau will continue to deepen collaborations with institutions in Mainland China and overseas, nurturing globally competitive language professionals and contributing wisdom and strength to cross-cultural dialogue and the integration of global education.
