Book Launch on Luís de Camões by Sara Augusto

Sara Augusto, a professor at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, City University of Macau, launched her book, “The Vast Empire of the Heart: Camões in the Portuguese-language literature in Macau. The book is accompanied by a photographic exhibition of the same title.

This work gathers poetic texts that explore the works and persona of the great 16th-century Portuguese poet Luís de Camões. Tradition holds that Camões once lived in Macau. The Camões Grotto, located in the Camões Garden, is a site for visitors to contemplate and celebrate his poetry. The collected poems honour Camões' literary genius, with poets drawing parallels to the exile and longing he experienced in Macau. The anthology includes a study by Sara Augusto, with photographs by the author herself.

Published by the Instituto Português do Oriente (IPOR), the work was presented on June 18 at the Portuguese Consulate in Macau. The event was attended by the Portuguese Consul, officials from Macau, and representatives from Portuguese-speaking countries at the Macau Forum.

This presentation was part of the "June, Month of Portugal" celebration, culminating in the commemoration of "June 10, Day of Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities."
