[GED Lecture] Judicial Police Bureau Visits FHSS to Deliver “Prevention of Telecommunication and Cyber Fraud” Lecture – Enhances Freshmen’s Awareness of Crime Prevention

To strengthen freshmen’s understanding of police work in Macao and raise their vigilance against fraud during their studies in the region, the General Education Department of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences organized an educational lecture of significant importance on September 10. The event featured representatives from the Judicial Police Bureau as guest speakers, who used multimedia approaches to explain key considerations for studying and living in Macao, attracting active participation from numerous students.

The lecture, titled “Prevention of Telecommunication and Cyber Fraud”, was delivered by Mr. Tang Wai Wa, Criminal Investigator of the Judicial Police Bureau. With advancing technology, students increasingly rely on computers and mobile phones in their daily lives, engaging in activities such as electronic payments, online shopping, social media, and various applications. Therefore, enhancing awareness of cyber security is particularly crucial. Through real-case sharing, video presentations, and comic stories, Investigator Tang vividly dissected common fraud tactics prevalent today, including online shopping traps, naked chat blackmail, dating scam fraud, online gaming scams, and online job-seeking pitfalls. The content resonated closely with the real-life experiences of young adults.

During the lecture, Mr. Tang detailed the modus operandi and psychological manipulation techniques employed by fraud syndicates, emphasizing that scammers’ methods are constantly evolving. He reminded students to remain vigilant and stay updated on emerging crime trends. The event elicited an enthusiastic response, with many students actively sharing their own or their friends’ suspected encounters with fraud and engaging in interactive Q&A sessions with the speaker, further deepening their understanding of fraud prevention techniques.

The lecture was highly practical and dynamically presented, receiving unanimous praise from the attending students. Participants expressed that through real-case analyses, they learned how to identify fraudulent activities and protect personal information and property safety, benefiting greatly from the experience.
