The award ceremony for the "2026 Macau University Student Conference and Event Planning Competition" was held recently. The competition was organized by the Youth Committee under the Macao Convention and Exhibition Association, and co-organized by the Macao Exhibition and Trade Association, the Macao Advertising Association, the Macao Convention and Exhibition Industry Association, the Macao Convention and Exhibition Tourism Association, and the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone Convention and Exhibition Industry Association. Cheng Xian, a student from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at City University of Macau (CityU), together with two other CityU students from the Faculty of International Tourism and Management, formed a three-member team that stood out with outstanding performance and won the runner-up prize.
The "Macau University Student Conference and Event Planning Competition" has been held for nine consecutive editions since its establishment in 2018. The event actively responding to the call to build a long-term talent cultivation mechanism for Macao's MICE (meeting, incentive, conference, exhibition) industry, the competition aims to nurture young talents in the convention and exhibition sector. It helps Macao build a high-level talent hub for the international convention and exhibition industry, and continuously promote exchange, interaction and professional cooperation among university students from Macao and Hengqin in the field of MICE, promoting the high-quality and sustainable development of the culture, tourism, MICE industries in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
This year's event was highly competitive, attracting a total of 60 teams from renowned universities in the Greater Bay Area from both Macao and Hengqin. After intense competition, 16 outstanding teams successfully advanced to the finals. Among them, the CityU team closely followed the development trends of the industry, through the theme of "Integration of Sports and Health, Digital Intelligence Empowerment - 2027 International Sports Recovery and Digital Therapy Innovation Summit", they carried out the design of the solution and finally won the second place. This result fully demonstrat the excellent professional quality and comprehensive ability of CityU students.
The competition provides a high-quality platform for professional practice and exchange for young students in the Greater Bay Area. The winning teams will also be qualified to participate in the "2026 Asia MICE Youth Challenge", organized by the Asian Federation of Exhibition and Convention Associations (AFECA), helping students broaden their international horizons, gain high-level competition experiences, and enhance their competitiveness in the industry. Going forward, CityU will actively encourage students to take part in high-level professional competitions and industry practice activities, strengthening their professional competence and practical skills, and cultivating high-quality applied talents.
