MACAO, September 8, 2026 — Representatives of the Portuguese Program of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the City University of Macau, including Associate Professor Vera Borges, Assistant Professor Carina Liu, and Lecturer Daniel de Jesus, met with Secretary-General António Monteiro of the International Institute of Macau (IIM) to explore collaboration in promoting the Portuguese language, culture, and Macanese heritage.

The meeting included a tour of IIM’s facilities. Associate Professor Vera Borges also invited Secretary-General António Monteiro to participate in a panel discussion on the status of the Portuguese language in Macao. The panel will be part ofthe international conference “What’s in a Language?” – Reflections on the Portuguese Language in Asia (Language and Cultural Memory) within the Colonial and Post-Colonial Context, to be held at the City University of Macau from October 14 to 16, 2026.
