Congratulation! CityU students won Macau Economics Essay Competition

The results of the Macau Economic Essay Competition 2021 have been announced. The team consisting of Sun Haojun from the Faculty of Finance, Zheng Jiansong from the Institute of Analytical Psychology, Xu Zhibin from the Faculty of International Tourism and Management and Mai Jinhang from the the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, won the second prize in the open category, competing with Macau people from all trades and professions to discuss Macau’s economic development.

Based on the local context of Macau, the article used the cohort component population prediction method, coupled with the labour force participation rate forecasting based on Brass Logic Life Table, to reasonably forecast Macau’s local labour force supply, filling the current research gap in forecasting the age structure of Macau's local labour force supply. The research results provided a solid human resource data base for the implementation of the “Talent Regime” and the “Macau New Neighbourhood”.

It is reported that the Macau Economic Essay Competition is an academic competition in the economic field organized by the Macau Economic Association and sponsored by the Macau Foundation. The competition encourages the person or community to take an interest in Macau, to study Macau’s economic issues and to nurture research talents for Macau. This year’s participants chose topics around economic recovery in the post-epidemic period and the industries in the Hengqin In-Depth Guangdong-Macao Co-operation Zone. About 50 essays were submitted, with over 100 participants.

The high academic quality demonstrated by CityU students in this competition manifests the importance the university attaches to enhancing students’ sense of innovation.
