Professor Lee Tien Dock of Taiwan University of Arts: Destruction and innovation, cases and verification of creative industries

On September 28, 2023, Mr. Lee Tien Dock, Director of Kunshan University of Science and Technology, Professor at the School of Communication of the National Taiwan University of Arts, Visiting Professor at the Department of Sociology of the University of Cambridge, UK, Visiting Professor at the Department of Sociology of Komazawa University, Japan, and President of the Association of Visual Communication Arts, delivered a lecture titled “Disruption and Innovation in Creative Industries: Cases and Verification” to the Master’s and PhD students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the City University of Macau. The lecture took place in Classroom T09 on the Taipa campus. Professor Wang Zhong, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Associate Professor Xiao Daibai, Director of the Graduate Program in Cultural Industries, attended the lecture.

Professor Lee Tien Dock categorized innovation into three types: “Sustaining Innovation,” “Low-Market Innovation,” and “New-Market Innovation.” He provided an in-depth analysis of the creative industries, focusing on strategy and operational logic through specific case studies. This approach enhanced the listeners' understanding of creative industries, deepened their thinking, and broadened their perspectives. During the lecture, Professor Lee also encouraged students to read extensively, travel widely, observe keenly, and think critically. He illustrated his methodology of living, thinking, and researching by using Starbucks as an example, drawing from his observations and experiences around the world. Professor Lee's lecture was a vivid example of research in action, a feast of erudite thinking, and a profound academic journey.
