Mr. Wang Zhong, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at City University of Macau, and Associate Professor Xiao Daibai, Director of the Graduate Program in Cultural Industry, attended the lecture.
Professor Hu Huilin began his lecture by addressing the core topic. He emphasized that the significance and importance to the nation and its people are the primary criteria for identifying "frontier issues." At the same time, he highlighted the importance of fundamental issues, which he also considers to be part of frontier research. The study of fundamental issues is crucial for building China's independent knowledge system. The nature of the cultural industry itself represents a foundational frontier issue in the field of cultural industry research. Next, based on modes of production, Professor Hu categorized cultural industry forms into three types: traditional cultural industry forms, mechanical cultural industry forms, and new digital cultural industry forms. The commonality among these three types lies in their ability to meet people's spiritual and cultural consumption needs. Professor Hu further integrated the unique geographical, historical, and cultural factors of Macau and City University of Macau to propose specific research directions that are both fundamental and cutting-edge.
Throughout the lecture, Professor Hu Huilin skillfully connected the issues and research with national positioning, policies, and the specific context of Macau and City University of Macau, as well as the research interests of the students. His presentation was both profound and accessible, filled with the warmth and wisdom of an experienced scholar. He encouraged students to ground their research in Macau, to focus on Macau, and to explore issues within familiar contexts. He urged them to stand at the current moment in time, to bridge the past and present with creativity, and to draw insights from both Chinese and international perspectives. He emphasized the importance of cultivating a strong sense of inquiry, conducting in-depth and multi-dimensional explorations in nuanced areas, and excelling in cutting-edge research on the cultural industry.
After the lecture, Professor Hu Huilin enthusiastically answered questions from the audience. This seminar was an important initiative to further enhance graduate students' problem awareness and improve the quality of graduate education. The content of the lecture was highly inspiring for students in selecting their research topics, and the feedback from the students was overwhelmingly positive.
