澳門城市大學第六屆城市盃英語演講比賽日前於氹仔校區何賢會議中心舉辦，作為城大年度重要的英語賽事，吸引全校近一百位學生參加，報名人數為歷年最多。經過初賽角逐，共有11名選手成功闖關，爭奪冠亞季及其他獎項。人文社會科學學院金立賢院長、通識教育部麥雁鈴主任蒞臨現場觀摩比賽，為參賽選打氣及給予指導。而身在外地的劉駿校長更親自拍攝短片，為參賽學生送上寄語，讚揚同學們用心的準備及精彩的表現。

 本屆英語演講比賽的主題為“Best day of my life”，選手們透過自身的經歷從不同角度分享生命中最美好的一天，有選手分享自身生活經驗，形容成為國際義工的那一天是最美好的一刻；亦有選手錶達對人生意義的感悟，認為最美好的一天就是把握每一刻、活在當下，演講內容多元豐富，除了展現城大學生出色的英文水準外，也給在場的同學們帶來了無限正能量。

 期間，由來自澳門大學的李韜講師、澳門專業人士暨畢業生演講會前任會長黃幗瑜小姐以及澳門聖若瑟大學的Mr.Andrew Leong-Muphy高級講師擔任評委，由城大樑雋及徐倩華講師擔任Question masters, 在每位參賽者演講後提問。經過主題演講及即興演講兩輪激戰，張紫璆同學獲得冠軍，高悅熒同學獲得亞軍，李翔宇同學獲得季軍。此外，張汐銘同學，艾典同學分別獲得最受歡迎演講者獎以及最佳禮儀獎。

學生感言：

冠軍：英語專業 大一 張紫璆Hazel

First of all, I am very grateful that City U can provide a stage for English learning and communication so that people from different majors who love English and public speaking can get together and communicate with each other. It is enjoyable to hear other people's stories and learn from their experiences

Secondly, from my point of view, the best way to learn a language is to speak. Through public speech, presentation, and daily communication, we can practice English expression so as to form an English mindset. I am grateful that my ability of expression and logic has improved in this competition.

Finally, I want to thank my teachers William and Daniel. Their support and help to me are beyond words. I hope we can continue to communicate and learn from each other in the future.

亞軍：英語專業 大一 高悅熒 Celine

First of all, I am very grateful to the City University of Macau and FHSS for launching this event which provides a platform for us to exchange ideas and showcase. I was given a golden chance to share my story with CityU with the audience. Secondly, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the teachers who organized the contest and my supervisor, Anna, who took time out of her busy schedule to help me improve my speech, correct my pronunciation, and share many presentation tips. Without her guidance and encouragement, I would not have achieved such a great result. I am also very grateful to the other outstanding contestants. I gained joy from their speeches, and at the same time, I realized my shortcomings, so that I can orient myself for future efforts and improvement. Through this city cup speech contest, my writing and speaking skills have been significantly improved. In addition, I learned to overcome my nervousness and enjoy the stage. This competition experience will always encourage me to face future challenges.

季軍：英語專業 大三 李翔宇 Slade

CityU has set its sights on becoming an internationally-focused university, and as such, English is of paramount importance. Not only is English the bridge that connects us to the world, it is also the foundation of our communication with the world. City Cup is an annual English event that I have witnessed since I enrolled, and this year I was fortunate enough to participate and gain a lot from it. First and foremost, I would like to thank my mentor, Henry, whose meticulous guidance and enthusiasm for public speaking have greatly inspired me. I would also like to express my gratitude to my teachers and classmates for their support and encouragement. Lastly, I would like to thank the General Education Department and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences for organizing this competition and providing a platform for students to showcase their skills. English is a window that cannot be shut once it is opened. It allows us to see the outside world, and it is a window to the world. It also enables us to recognize that there is always someone better than us, and to strive for greater heights.

Firstly, I would like to appreciate my tutor Laurinda and all the teachers who helped me during my preparation for the competition. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to give me revise and comment on my script and speech skills which allow me to convince my progress during my again and again practice. I would also like to thank all the students who were present for support and enjoyment of my speech. As for me, I have gained from this competition a lot rather than just the results and rewards, whether it was the sincere sharing in the lecture before the competition, the genuine comment from the judges after the competition, or the other competitors’ excellent performances. What's more, I will continue to carry all these harvests with me as I move forward.

最佳禮儀獎：英語專業 大二 艾典 Giselle

There is nothing better than dedicating the beautiful spring days to the City Cup and gaining fantastic memories. I will never forget the feeling of seeing all the wonderful candidates shining on the stage and my heart beating for the competition. Though there were some obstacles and challenges in the process of preparing for the competition, just as Kelly Clarkson sang in her song: "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger", I've learned a lot from the experience and met so many wonderful people and finally become more capable than I used to be. I would like to show my appreciation to all the people who had helped me and supported me. Without you, I couldn't have done this. As for those who weren't on the game this year, City Cup is well-worth trying, and wish next year you will bravely step out of your comfort zone and shine on the stage. Let's meet better ourselves here!
